State of the Union #2

Posted by Matt Shivan on 9 Aug 2002

Fellow OSW'ers:

I'd like to start this week's State of the Union by welcoming the Extreme Legends to our cosy little family. I hope that their stay here will be long and fruitful - contrasting that of Disorderly Conduct, who were ejected from the building immediately prior to the start of last weeks Slam main event. Judging by their fine debut on Slam, things are looking good for them and OSW as a whole! We could be looking at the next Tag Team champions!

In the two weeks since my appointment as president of this fine company, I've come to the conclusion that I've barely scratched the surface of what I must do in order to fulfil my charter. Jane Reagan sought me out and hired me to do something that from all evidence is in dire need of being done. I will stop at nothing to raise OSW to new heights, in all aspects.

I started my mission at the bottom of the company, by conducting a cursory inspection for "illegal substances" in amongst the possessions of the ring crews and referee staff. I looked for anything that could impede their performance in their jobs. At the same time I made a beeline straight to the top of the company, by stopping this cancer-ridden scheme of Howard Porter's to have a team like Disorderly Conduct main event in our fine company. One can only imagine the long-term damage done to our Neilson scores had he succeeded.

With respect to the first (of many) "illegal substances" search, I am able to report to you that those members of staff who were found to be in possession of items on the list of prohibited substances have been offered a second chance to prove themselves to be valuable members of the OSW family. This includes, at company expense, access to the relevant rehabilitation treatments. However, the rehabilitation is a one time only offer, and failure to complete the course or indeed any future violations of company policy or the law in this area will only result in disciplinary action, dismissal, or the relevant law enforcement agencies being contacted. We aim to maintain a happy and healthy working environment, and will do what it takes to make this happen. With that in mind, there is a two week amnesty on anyone who decides to come forth and seek help for any such problems. After the two weeks, all bets are off and the knives will be out – you can take that to the bank!

Regarding the last minute change to Mr. Porter's planned main event for last week's Slam, he should by now be aware that I am watching his every step closely when it comes to decisions he makes regarding the presentation of our product to the fans. I can and will do what it takes to keep the likes of Tuff Tom and Mean Mike out of OSW main events, or indeed anywhere else that would adversely affect our bottom line. Case in point, we go from Porter booking his buddies vs Disorderly Conduct one week, to me providing the viewing audience with Sebastian Toomes challenging Rhett Locke for the world title the next. Without going into detail, the implications of this match and its outcome are huge with respect to the future direction of OSW. What would fans rather watch - Disorderly Conduct or Sebastian Toomes? Lets wait for the ratings tell the tale. On a side note, I will be looking into the contracts of certain OSW stars to see if their payments can be made on a performance basis. That's all I can say on that right now, but there will be more on it in the coming weeks.

I will take this opportunity to issue a presidential order to Mr. Porter, Mr. Kriegman and Mr. Dorkiman - stay out of my main event for this weekend's Slam. The top of the card says Toomes vs Locke - OSW Heavyweight Title, and does not mention Think Tank members or their associates during that time period. Lets keep it that way, shall we? Ignore this official order and there will be dire consequences, starting with me refereeing some of your own career-pivotal matches, and only getting worse from there. Oh, and take note, Mr. Graphic Violence, I'll be keeping an eye out for you as well during my main event, right from the vantage provided by my Presidential Box.

Lastly for this week’s State of the Union, I say that with both the bottom and top of the company found to be wanting, I can only begin to speculate what I will find when I focus my attention on everything in between. I shall keep you informed over the coming weeks of my progress.

Yours sincerely
The President
