In the Know #4

Posted by Matt Shivan on 9 Aug 2002

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of In the Know with yours truly, Nate Dumas.

Trimming the Fat
Its not secret that OSW officials are looking to cut away some dead weight, as evidenced by the company recently releasing Kory Storm and Michel Krieg.

Now, I am not a betting man unless it involves the number 21 or the colors red and black, but if I were, I would venture a guess you may have very well seen the last of guys like Jeff Garvin and Doug Troy, and wouldn’t be shocked in the least if guys like Vampir Nosferatu, Sepiroth Du Luc and Tom Walczak are all out of jobs come the end of August.

What the Dirt Sheets Don’t Know
What the dirt sheets don’t know is that the company has also been looking recent developments backstage, and could be terminating the deals of some big OSW names in the very near future.

Again, I am no swami, but names like Alan Kriegman, Sebastian Toomes, Graphic Violence, Silence and even the world champion of OSW himself, Rhett Locke, have been mentioned in hush whispers around the OSW water cooler, as possible problems backstage. Stay tuned for more on this.

In Hot Water
Word backstage is Da Westsidaz were caught doing something they shouldn’t have, and have gained heat with OSW officials. I can’t comment on the exact details of what happened, but I can say that there is some truth to the story, as Da Westies haven’t been booked since the incident. While current indications are that Riptah and Short Circuit will be around after the roster cuts, I wouldn’t be shocked if they got the boot either.

Money
Not the green stuff.

OSW officials are really impressed with the work of Tom Lexian since Jane signed him away from PCW. Tom is well known in the business for being a hardworker, and he has not disappointed. Hopefully some of his work ethic will rub off on his partner, Mike Extreme.

OSW officials feel the feud between Kid Wonder and Scott Taylor is hot, and like the in ring work between the two men. These two could very well be the future of Old School Wrestling. People sometimes forget that Kid Wonder, despite his long and storied career, is still in his early 20’s, and could potentially carry this organization for the next 15 to 20 years, assuming he stops taking so many risks with his body.

OSW officials think Frankie Bones is a star in the making, so expect a bigger role for the Master of Pain in the near future.

Civil Disobedience are some of the best competitors in the business, and lead a very healthy tag team division in OSW. OSW officials feel that they could be fixtures in the company’s main event scene both as a team and singles for years to come.

OSW officials are impressed by Clay Vendetta and feel he just needs to be put into the right program to become huge.

Look for Hessian to get a main event push when he returns from injury.

It’s good to see Tempest back. She always works hard and the fans love her.

OSW likes all of the women on the roster, and is looking for a way to better work them into the storylines following By Any Means Necessary. The belief in the front office is that there has never been a greater array of female talent in one organization at any given time. I tend to share their views.

I am glad to see Toomes being pushed back into the main event scene. Anyone else notice Toomes and Stanislav ended Slam last week with a staredown? Could a second Toomes/Ivan feud around the belt be in the making? I for one hope so.

Other Rumblings
The OSW World Title situation is a mess. Doug Troy, Rhett Locke and Tom Walczak have all been major disappointments as champions. The Locke/Graphic Violence feud has not captivated fans nor critics, and has driven the stock of both men down.

Silence has been, well, just kinda there. Perhaps he and GV are just getting back into the swing of working with one another, but right now the whole NC-17 angle, and Silence in general is coming off as flat.

Jeff Garvin was a huge mistake. Some insiders over at 21w warned OSW officials against signing him, but OSW did it anyway. Perhaps next time, we’ll listen.

Without Hessian, the Cult is a mere shadow. Bethany Yamato is a nice sideline player, but cannot centerpiece for the Cult. Callisto Bane was a nice edition, but she is new, and there is no real role for her as of yet. SDL hasn’t done a whole hell of a lot, and as mentioned earlier, could be one of the casualties of the rumored roster cuts that are to come.

The Think Tank is a bit too big. I think a four-man unit is the way to go.

Is it me or do the fans not care about Trashcan Man? His run as a main eventer is likely finished, at the very minimum.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Good
1. Tempest/Ivan heat.
2. Mr. President angle.
3. Kid Wonder/Scott Taylor feud.

Bad
1. Jeff Garvin signing.
2. Trashcan Man’s return.
3. GV/Rhett Locke feud.

Ugly
1. Rhett Locke crying in the ring.
2. Reno Davis’ descent into OSW obscurity.
3. What appears to be the end of Doug Troy’s career.

Well, that’s that from the OSW announce desk. I’ll be back with another edition of In the Know next week!
