Crazy Canuck #5

Posted by Matt Shivan on 15 Aug 2002

Hey boys and girls, the only columnist from the Greatest Goddamn Country There Is is back again for the fifth installment of The Crazy Canuck. Betcha missed me, eh? Well I¡¯m back and I¡¯ve been tuning in to OSW lately and I¡¯m ready to talk aboot the latest questions that have been going through my mind.

Is the Think Tank TOO Powerful? Look at ¡®em! They have three of the smartest men in America (not like that says much), two friggin¡¯ powerhouses and the most hardcore sumbitch walking. If I were in the Think Tank, this would be welcomed, but I¡¯m not. I¡¯m a fan. As a fan, I don¡¯t think that realistically anyone can take out the Think Tank, and that¡¯s a bad thing. They need to lose at least one of the hired guns so people can compete with them. Toomes and Civil Disobedience are great, but three men can¡¯t take on six. Ivan Stanislav, El Drago and Tempest are just as good, but there¡¯s no way that they and the Elite will be able to co-exist to work together. It would just end up as another victory for the Think Tank.

Is there anyone that can lead the Cult to the top of OSW? Well, that¡¯s a good question, but it¡¯s obvious that there is. The name of that person? Hessian. But he¡¯s injured, eh? With Hessian injured, the Cult is at a huge loss. They have HUGE stars in the making with Bethany Yamato and Calisto Bane. Although SDL is ¡°apparently¡± a force to be reckoned with, he makes me yawn and ¡°apparently¡± Vampir Nosferatu has untapped potential, but the only thing he¡¯s ¡°potentially¡± going to get is the ole¡¯ hee-hoe. Now, with those two out Beth and Bane need leadership, but Hess is sidelined. Can anybody help these two young stars break out of their shell while Satan¡¯s Servant is on the rebound?

What the HELL happened to the International Title scene!? Last month Propaganda vs. Nick Casey was one of my favourite feuds. The months before that with wrestlers like Locke, Corg and Propaganda fighting over the title kept me on the edge of my seat. Right now we get to be treated by the always awesome matches between the Champ and Propaganda, but it¡¯s not fresh. Casey and Propaganda seem repetitive every week and that¡¯s not a good thing. Both men are huge talents, but the division needs to be used as a stepping stone for people who are the Next Big Thing. A position that these two aren¡¯t quite at yet. Which brings me to my next point¡

Who is the Next Big Thing? Well, there are obviously some contenders that have opened eyes in the last few months. This subject was recently brought up in the Forums and I thought I¡¯d go over the choices in this column.
1. ¡°Classic¡± Clay Vendetta: My favourite wrestler in OSW right now, my favourite wrestler in OSW yesterday and my favourite wrestler in OSW tomorrow. Clay has ¡°INTERNATIONAL CHAMP¡± written all over him and has for months. His promos, in-cards and matches amaze me every time I turn on the tube. This is a man who should be thrown into the Int. Title scene immediately after he finishes wiping up the current mess they call the Cult.
2. Frankie Bones: The Master of Pain got a screw-job by being paired with Drew Hostyle a couple months ago, but he¡¯s bouncing back quite nicely. His feud with Jesus has been a dose of freshness and the development of his character has apparently got management buzzing. I can see Bones being a great feud for Vendetta over the International title next month. Hell, maybe even the World Title early next year.
3. Scott Taylor: The guy is talented, no question there. Being paired with K-Dub has been great for him and makes for good TV. I think being pushed right away into the International division after the PPV would do wonders for him.
4. Tempest: Wow, the Little Storm never ceases to catch my eye. I¡¯m not talking about her good looks either. It¡¯s been a long while since I¡¯ve seen such a great combination of talent and looks. I think that being pushed into a feud with another female star like possibly Amy Campbell or Bethany Yamato would be good, especially if Aimz happened to take the Cruiserweight title off of Corg in the coming weeks.
5. Amy Campbell: Wonderful work-rate, lots of talent. What more needs to be said? Maybe if she became less of a target backstage for others and tried to become more of a domineering force she could become the next Cruiserweight Champion.
6. Civil Disobedience: The cream of the Tag Team Crop. These guys have what it takes to become the next Blood Brothers or the next Westsidaz. I¡¯m looking forward to seeing more and more of Civil D in the future.

Who is Mr. President? Well, not many people have much of a clue at this time. A few names have been thrown around. Kremmen, Ed Novak¡¯s corpse, Lance Knight, JJ¡ the list goes on. Well, this columnist is putting his bets on Actor/Comedian Nipsey Russel. The Nipster has always been a long time wrestling fan and I doubt he¡¯d let an opportunity like this pass him by. It¡¯s either him or Mr. Powerful who cannot be stopped according to http://ew24-7.ewmuseum.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=3840 .

Ivan Stanislav¡Friend or Foe? Well, there are a lot of theories going around out there. A couple people don¡¯t trust him, a couple people a joining the craze their now calling Ivanmania and a couple of people are waiting to see what happens. As for me, I think the Russian Bear is on the level. He seems to have taken some heat from Russia and anyone that has watched Ivan as long as I have knows that he wouldn¡¯t get in shit from the Motherland just to swerve us. Personally, I¡¯m becoming somewhat of an Ivanmaniac myself.

Well, that¡¯s all you¡¯re gonna hear from me today so remember¡ Drink your Molson, Eat your Poutine and most of all, DON¡¯T BLAME CANADA!!
